February 13 - The Word of God is Life

Taken from "Power For Today" by: Merlin Neff

Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. - Philippians 2:16

The Bible is the story of human experience. In its pages, from Genesis to the Revelation, we find the greatness of God's love. "In the beginning God created...." This is life and action; it is the creation of a world, the beginning of life upon it.

In the Old Testament we see God working out His plan through weak human instruments. It is true that they often failed, but the Lord never ceased loving His children. In the gospels of the New Testament we find uncouth fishermen drawn to Jesus. Many times they were careless and indifferent, but the Master continued to teach them, to pray for them, and to lead them in the way of life.

Read the Bible to find a Person. The Bible is only a blueprint of the way to eternal life. The way is Jesus, and the book is the revelation of His love. We can meet Jesus through the story of Zacchaeus. We can hear the Master speaking to us as He did to that little man who climbed the tree, and He will say to us as he did to Him: "I want to come and live with you."

We can turn in the scriptures to the story of Jesus and Nicodemus and feel the power of the Master's words, telling us of the new birth. We can understand the Spirit's power, which comes like the evening wind, blowing sin and selfishness out of our hearts.

As we read we find the power of the Person, and if we are sincere let the prayer of our hearts be, "O God, help me to find Jesus through His words of life. Fill me with Thy spirit so that He can cleanse me of all sin."
