If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love. - John 15:10
Jesus, our Example, lived in complete harmony with the Ten Commandments. He taught that the divine law was eternal. If it could have been changed or abolished, the Son of God would never have needed to give His life to save man from the penalty of a broken law.
Obedience to God's commands is a test of discipleship, for the Master said, "Not every one that saith unto Me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of My Father which is in heaven." Matthew 7:21
The great temptation faced in the Garden of Gethsemane was to seek an easier way; but He overcame the temptation through faith in the divine plan. "In the prayer of Gethsemane, " writes Professor Manson, "the Father appears as the supreme reality in the life of Jesus, the will of the Father is the dominating factor in the life of the Son."
This heroic example of obedience is set before every Christian. Nothing less than complete surrender to Jesus and full devotion to His cause is expected of the followers of the Master. - Neff
